The SR-71 "Blackbird" Is The October Family Day Topic At The U.S. Air Force Museum

Children and their families will learn about the exciting history and development of one of the most famous and popular aircraft of all time, the SR-71 Blackbird, during Family Day at the U.S. Air Force Museum on Oct. 18.

Designed for children ages 3-13 and their families, Family Day begins at 10 a.m. with a guided tour featuring a fast-paced overview of the highlights of aviation history. The tour is designed to appeal to all ages.

"Storytime" will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Modern Flight Gallery. The program invites preschool and primary-grade children (Pre-K through third grade) to sit under the wings of airplanes and listen to thrilling stories about aviation and space.

The Museum's Aerospace Adventures starts at 1:30 p.m. in the Museum's Learning Center. Children in fourth through seventh grade will construct and fly their very own SR-71 model. The cost is $1.50, and advanced reservations are recommended. Line numbers will be issued beginning at 1 p.m. on the second floor near the Learning Center.

In the midst of all the entertaining and educational programs, children will see exciting demonstration stations spread throughout the museum galleries from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each station will highlight a simple and fun aerospace principle for children of all ages.

The U.S. Air Force Museum is located on Springfield Pike, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission and parking are free.
