The Centenial of Flight Commission, having fulfilled their charter in promoting the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers' 1903 powered flight, was disbanded in April 2004. As part of their charter, the Centennial of Flight Web site [-- originally online at "centennialofflight.GOV" -- ] was passed to NASA, with the NASA History Office as the primary organization designated to support it. The NASA history office continued to make the Centennial of Flight Web site available until September 2012, at which time budget constraints precluded them from making mandatory upgrades to the site and servers. The site was removed and was no longer available online.

The American Aviation Historical Society (AAHS), a 501.3.c non-profit educational organization, recognizing the importance of the content of the Centennial of Flight Website, has, at its own expense, taken the initiative to return the Centennial web site to the internet again -- now under the address "CentennialofFlight.NET" -- and to update and maintain the availability of the original content, only making changes required to maintain the functionality of the site, enhance site navigation, or provide links to supplimental information. When such changes are visible to the visitor, they will be indicated by a color-coding as represented by this statement.
