Children and their families will learn about the highlights of 100 years of powered flight during Family Day at the U.S. Air Force Museum on Aug. 16.

Designed for children ages 3-13 and their families, Family Day begins at 10 a.m. with a guided tour featuring a fast-paced overview of the highlights of aviation history. The tour is designed to appeal to all ages.

"Storytime" will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Modern Flight Hangar. The program invites preschool and primary-grade children (Pre-K through third grade) to sit among the airplanes and listen to thrilling stories about famous airplanes, spacecraft and other things that fly.

The Museum's Aerospace Adventures starts at 1:30 p.m. in the Museum's Learning Center. Children in fourth through seventh grade will learn about the centennial of powered flight, from the Wright brother's historic first flight to present-day aerospace technology. As part of the adventure, youngsters will construct and fly their own 'experimental' model aircraft, an X-plane.

This month's Aerospace Adventure is FREE, but advanced reservations are recommended. Line numbers will be issued beginning at 1 p.m. on the second floor near the Learning Center.

In the midst of all the entertaining and educational programs, children will see exciting demonstration stations spread throughout the museum galleries from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each station will highlight a simple and fun aerospace principle for children of all ages.

The U.S. Air Force Museum is located on Springfield Pike, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission and parking are free.
