The Wright brothers began instructing pilots when Wilbur was in Europe in 1908, teaching students in France and Italy. In 1909, they began teaching military pilots in fulfillment of their contracts with the U.S. Government. They began the full time instruction of civilians with Orville's establishment of a winter training field in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1910.
